Security in Residential Areas
Housing Staff
Five professional head advisors, two assistant advisors, and twenty-five
resident assistants are members of the housing staff and reside in the
residential areas. A head advisor is on duty each night and coordinates
and responds to safety and security concerns for the residential community
at night. A residence assistant is on duty each night in each building.
A desk worker is on duty in all buildings each night. All resident hall
staff have immediate access to the Louisiana College Security staff through
the Staff-Member-On-Duty (SMOD) or by a direct dial to the security person.
Safety and security issues are included in a staff training session prior
to the beginning of the Fall semester. Each advisor schedules safety and
security programs with staff assigned to the building. Safety and security
concerns are discussed at weekly meetings of the head advisors and at
bi-weekly meetings of resident assistants.
Security in Residential Halls
The residence life staff covers emergency duty for weekdays from 8 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m. A head advisor covers emergency duty from 4:30 p.m. - 8 a.m.
daily and on weekends. A resident assistant is on duty in each building
to assist the Staff-Member-On-Duty with emergency coverage. A desk worker
is available each night in each building.
Access to Residential Areas
Access to Cottingham Hall, Tudor Hall or Church Hall during the day is
gained through the front lobby door. A worked is available at each main
desk from approximately 5 p.m. until midnight to provide information and
referral services for students and guests.
Students requiring access to Tudor Hall or Cottingham Hall after midnight
enter through the combination door of the building. In the event of failure
of a combination lock, residents call a Staff-Member-On-Duty (487-SMOD).
Security personnel are dispatched to the defective entrance every hour
on the hour to permit access to students.
Access to the English Village apartments is provided for each member
of an assigned apartment via an individually issued key. A resident assistant
or the head advisor may allow access to an individual room or an apartment
should the individual need assistance.
Security During Holiday/Semester Breaks
Students are not allowed access to residence halls during semester breaks
and official College holidays as published in the College calendar. However,
on campus housing is provided for international students, out-of-state
residents, and students participating in required College activities.
During this time, the Dean of Students employs and trains support personnel
to supervise residence halls. Support personnel are oriented to fundamental
security and emergency procedures. The apartment and residential halls
are fully secure with access via combination locks or keys provided to
support staff. The Director of Security receives a list of individuals
residing on campus during breaks. Head advisors orient these students
to security and emergency procedures. Access to buildings is restricted
to the residence halls to which the student is assigned.
