Studying Chemistry at Louisiana College

Louisiana College’s Department of Chemistry boasts outstanding faculty members who are intent upon providing students with the very best chemistry foundation upon which to build.

Degree Programs
Through the Division of Natural Sciences and the Department of Chemistry, students may earn a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and pre-dental and pre-pharmacy.

Curriculum
The curriculum in chemistry is designed to give maximum flexibility for several types of students. The person interested in pre-professional programs related to medicine, high school or college teaching, industrial employment or a general background in chemistry will find courses adapted for such interest. The department is committed to integrating chemistry, ecology and the environment for students in a liberal arts curriculum.

Program Distinctives
Each chemistry major participates in an internship in the local area with another scientist or completes a research project on or off campus. Students are also hired as lab assistants and tutors each semester. This practical experience gives another dimension to an excellent science education.

Since 2001, 90 percent of chemistry graduates were accepted into graduate or professional schools.

Faculty
Each of the Department’s three faculty members are themselves trained scientists who are dedicated to both their field of expertise and their faith.

Student Organizations
Chemistry students may participate in numerous campus organizations. Alpha Epsilon Delta is the national honor society and service organization for pre-medical students, and AED is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry.
