Residential Life
Regulations & Procedures
Residence Hall Meeting
At the beginning of each semester there will be a mandatory meeting of
the residence hall students at which time residence hall and College policies
will be explained. The Head Advisor will address the residents and a sign-in
sheet will be enforced to assure attendance. Disciplinary action may be
taken if students do not attend.
Room Reservations
You must reserve a room by completing a room reservation card and returning
to Student Life. A non-refundable $75.00 deposit is required to secure
a room. Only students who are over the age of 21 or living with their
parents are excused from living on campus. Students who do not make room
reservations will lose their priority and will be considered for roommate
and room assignments only after the majority of the student body have
been assigned.
Room Changes
Room and roommate changes are made for the academic year. Room changes
are made within the first week of the semester. If you have a problem
with your current assignment, we encourage you to discuss this with your
Head Advisor or Resident Assistant.
Single or Private Rooms
When space permits, double rooms may be used as private accommodation.
The room charge will increase approximately one and one-half (1 1/2) times
the stated rate for double occupancy. Single room priority, for both single
rooms and double rooms used for private accommodations, will be given
to requests of upper classmen, and all determinations will be made by
the Director of Residence Life.
Without a Roommate?
If you do not have a roommate after the semester starts, and all other
students have been assigned, you will be given the option of either moving
in with another resident or keeping your room as private at the additional
rate. When you choose to room with another person, you can choose with
whom you want to live.
Room Inspection or Search
College personnel may enter a student's room in order to ascertain health
and safety conditions, check the physical condition of the room, make
repairs to facilities, perform custodial operations, and aid in emergency
situations. Residence hall staff will make periodic inspections of the
rooms to insure that adequate living standards are maintained. Occupants
are required to maintain their rooms in an orderly and hygienic manner.
Rooms will be checked on a regular basis by the resident assistants to
ensure adequate standards of cleanliness are maintained. Students failing
to maintain adequate standards of cleanliness may be billed for custodial
services. The College also reserves the right to enter and conduct a search
of any room if a violation of College regulations is suspected. When appropriate,
during room inspections or searches, the College reserves the right to
confiscate items found to be in violation of established policies and
regulation (e.g. alcohol, drugs, etc.). The student agrees to be bound
by the inspection and search procedures of the College as they now exist
or may be amended.
Community Standards
Students must follow the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook.
Violations of the Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action.
Learning to live together, respect for one another, and student responsibility
are key to making the residential life experience positive.
Non-smoking policy
Smoking is not permitted in any area of the residence halls.
Overnight Guests
Occasional overnight guests of the same gender are allowed in your room
if they do not create an inconvenience for your roommate or other residents.
Please inform your RA of any overnight guest you will have. You are responsible
for your guest observing hall and College regulations.
Open House
Open House hours are specified by the Director of Residence Life at the
beginning of each semester. You may have members of the opposite gender
visit you in the your residence hall room during these specified hours
only. Currently, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all have
open house hours assigned. All guests are expected to be escorted by their
hosts. Violations of the visitation policy will result in disciplinary
action which may include removal from the hall or suspension of visitation
privileges. Non-residents who violate visitation may be prohibited from
returning to the hall.
Courtesy Hours
Reasonable quiet is expected in residence halls at all times. Courtesy
hours will be observed in each residence hall nightly from 10:00 p.m.
until 8:00 a.m. All students and their guests are expected to observe
these hours and provide an atmosphere conducive to study.
