Biography:
Dr. Lister grew up in a Christian family in the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina. Through the guidance and love of his parents and the ministry of the local church, God opened his eyes to the depth of his sin and he responded to the gospel, putting his faith in Christ for salvation.
Dr. Lister attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and was also able to play collegiate soccer. During his time in college he had the opportunity to minister through the school’s Christian organizations and in the local church. Through these experiences he felt the Lord leading him into vocational ministry.
In response to God’s call, Dr. Lister began his formal theological training at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Here he earned a Master of Divinity in biblical and theological studies and a Doctorate of Philosophy with emphasis in systematic theology under the supervision of Drs. Bruce Ware and Tom Schreiner. While completing his degree, he had the unique opportunity to teach as an adjunct professor at Biola University in Los Angeles, CA where his brother, Rob, is also a professor of theology.
Dr. Lister joined the faculty of Louisiana College in the Fall of 2011. In the classroom, Dr. Lister sees his role as integrating strong academics standards with personal and pastoral relationships. His goal is to reach both the mind and heart of the student for God’s glory. In scholarship, Dr. Lister’s academic interests include theology proper, redemptive history, the relationship between biblical and systematic theology, and the Christian worldview—each of which informed his doctoral dissertation on the presence of God. His work in this area of study continues as he has signed a contract with Crossway to publish a book on the importance of divine presence for understanding the storyline of Scripture and the Christian’s personal walk with the Lord.
Dr. Lister—and many others—will quickly point out that one of his best decisions was marrying his beautiful wife, Chase, with whom he has three fun and highly energetic kids: Jude, Silas, and Abby Kate. He desires first and foremost to be a disciple of Christ growing in grace, a father and husband exemplifying Christ’s love, and a healthy and active member of a God-centered and God-glorifying church. Dr. Lister has a passion to minister to God’s people and he hopes to demonstrate that in his ministry at Caskey.
