Aguillard Receives Prestigious Award
Dr. Joe Aguillard, Louisiana College president, was presented with the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation’s 2005 Edgar Godbold Educator Award this morning during his inauguration as Louisiana College’s eighth president.
Aguillard was unanimously selected by the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation’s Board in late January. He was nominated by the Rev. Mitch Harris, a member of the LMCF’s Board.
The award was named for longtime Louisiana College educator Dr. Edgar Godbold. Goldbold was appointed the College’s fourth president in 1941. He was also the first president of the LMCF.
The founders of the LMCF met in September of 1942 and spoke of a need ‘to provide, promote and protect a positive moral climate for the state of Louisiana.’ They wanted to form a ‘cooperative effort’ so that people of ‘all faiths and of no faith’ could work together to make Louisiana a better place in which to live.
The Awards Program began in 1980, nearly 40 years after the founding of the LMCF.
