Caudell Cup Winners Announced

Pineville, LA…The Louisiana College Music Department announces the winners of the 2010 Caudell Cup Competition which took place on March 6, 2010 on the campus of Louisiana College. First place winner was Benjamin Reinehart, a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University studying under Dr Kenneth Boulton. Reinehart was awarded the prestigious Caudell Cup, as well as a cash prize of $400.  Additionally, Reinehart will have the honor of performing for the Pineville Kiwanis Club during one of their 2010 spring meetings.

 

Winning second place and a cash prize of $250, was Jana Kracjiova, a senior from Northwestern State University. Kracjiova studies under Dr. Francis Yang. Third place winner was Paul Holmes, a Louisiana College freshman. Holmes studies under Ms. Mei-En Chou, instructor of music and artist-in-residence at Louisiana College. He was awarded a $150 cash prize.

Social Work Department/Club sponsors “Toms Shoes Abroad”

Pineville, LA.The Louisiana College Department of Social Work and the LC Social Work Club is sponsoring “Toms Shoes Abroad.” For every pair of TOMS shoes purchased TOMS Shoes Company donates a pair of new shoes to a child in need.

 

Shoes have to be pre-ordered by March 19th and the cost per pair of shoes is $44 plus $1 for shipping. The white canvas shoes will be available for pick-up at 2 p.m. on April 26th in the Granberry Conference Center on the campus of Louisiana College.

 

“LC students, faculty, staff and central Louisiana community members are encouraged to participate,” said Sara Rush, President of the Social Work Club. “This is a great way to directly impact the life of a child in need.” Bethany Branim, treasurer of the Social Work Club agrees, “I encourage everyone to get involved, you know that your purchase will make a difference.”

Career Fair March 11th

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Office of Student Development is hosting the 2010 Career Fair on Thursday, March 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Granberry Conference Center.   The fair is expected to draw representatives from many types of businesses and professions, including:  medical, law, education, television, radio, hospitality, military, government agencies, banking, and more.  In the past, employers from across Louisiana and Texas have participated.

 

This year’s fair will provide students the opportunity to present resumes, practice interview skills and network.  While all students are invited to attend, juniors and seniors are especially encouraged.  Students attending the fair should dress professionally, as they would for a job interview.

LC Music Department Hosts Caudell Cup Competition

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Department of Music, together with the Pineville Kiwanis Club, will host the 2010 Caudell Cup Piano Competition on Saturday, March 6th, at 2:00 pm in Presser Recital Hall on the campus of Louisiana College. The competition is open to the public free of charge.
The annual Caudell Cup Competition, first held in 1922, is one of the most prestigious awards at Louisiana College. Newly formatted two years ago, the competition is open to pianists of any nationality who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in the state of Louisiana.
The repertoire includes two pieces of contrasting styles from advanced standard piano solo repertoire (no concertos); both pieces must be performed from memory. Twelve competitors from five universities are participating this year.

In addition to being awarded the Caudell Cup, the first prize winner in the competition will also receive a cash prize of $400. The second place winner will receive a $250 award and Third place will receive $150. Additionally, the winner of the Caudell Cup will be invited to perform during one of the Pineville Kiwanis Club meetings this spring.

Judging this year is Dr. Pamela Mia Paul, recognized internationally, both as a performer and teacher from the University of North Texas. Following the competition at 6pm, Dr. Paul will hold Master Classes for LC piano students; these are open to public to observe.

PINEVILLE - At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Louisiana College women’s basketball team officially embarked on its physical journey to the NCAA Tournament regional in Newberg, Ore.

One could easily argue that the virtual journey began three years ago when Janice Joseph-Richard initially came home to coach her alma mater.

A throng of students, faculty and Louisiana College administration — among them, LC President, Dr. Joe Aguillard, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Michael Travers, Vice President for Business Affairs, Randall Hargis, Vice President for Student Development, Dr. Peggy Pack and Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Timothy Lynn Johnson, gathered outside H.O. West Field House to see the reigning American Southwest Conference Champs off. The Lady Cats will bus from Pineville to New Orleans before flying out of Louis Armstrong International Airport to Denver and then to Oregon where, Friday at 9 p.m. central time, they will take on the defending national champs from George Fox.

LC to Host Women’s Championship Tournament

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Athletic Director, Tim Whitman, has announced that Louisiana College will host the 2010 ASC East Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament February 26-28 in the H.O. West Field House.  This is a huge honor for the college and comes after the Lady Cats cinched the ASC East title in a 62-61 overtime win against Mississippi College’s Lady Choctaws. 

Lady Wildcat Head Basketball Coach Janice Richard explains, “It has been an exceptional year for us and we are so excited about our win over the Lady Choctaws and the upcoming ASC Conference.” 

The Lady Wildcats will play during the conference tournament at 7p.m.   Tournament games will be streamed live on LC’s radio station, KZLC, as well as video streamed online.

“Although you can go to our website, I encourage everyone in our community to come out and watch the games live,” said Coach Richard.

Tickets for the tournament are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available at the door each day of the tournament.
