Media Communication Dept. accepted in NRB

Pineville, LA…The Media Communications Department of Louisiana College has recently been accepted into membership of the National Religious Broadcaster Association (NRB).  Louisiana College is home to a low power radio station, KZLC 95.5, and is committed to the goal of educating and training the next generation of religious broadcasters.

Debate Team Takes 2nd Place

Pineville, LA… The Louisiana College debate team competed over the weekend at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and took second place overall in the Tournament.   The team went up against schools from LA, TX, and AR, with eight of the nine LC competitors returning with winning records. Four of the nine advanced to final rounds, with senior team captain, Kris Lee, advancing to final rounds and receiving 2nd place Speaker in Varsity competition.

  Three other members, Victory Greenhouse, Andrew Dufour, and Lucas Moncada each advanced to final rounds in Novice Competition with sophomore member, Lucas Moncada, receiving 5th place Speaker Award in the Novice Division.

Second year LC debate coach, Scot Loyd, competed in the open division and received 2nd place Speaker Award.

Martin to serve on review board for TCL

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Director of Library, and Associate Professor, Terry Martin, was recently selected from a wide field of candidates to serve as a member of the peer-review board for the professional library journal, The Christian Librarian (TCL). The journal, now in its 51st year of publication, is published by the Association of Christian Librarians and is indexed in the Christian Periodical Index, Information Science Abstracts, and in Library Literature.

Pineville, LA…On Thursday, October 2nd, Louisiana College will celebrate its founding 102 years ago with the annual Founder’s Day chapel service according to Dr. Joe Aguillard, President of Louisiana College. 

Founded on October 3, 1906, Louisiana College was founded as a private, Christian, liberal arts college funded by the Louisiana Baptist Convention. Each year, the founding of the college is marked by a campus-wide celebration and special chapel service. This chapel service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2nd at 11 a.m. in Guinn Auditorium.

Every year several individuals are chosen for the Trustee’s Distinguished Service Award. These individuals are chosen for their exceptional service to others over many years.  Receipants are always outstanding leaders in their church, to their community, state, and nation. All follow Christ and by his example are servants of others. Many have exemplary giving in philanthropy to the needy,  the arts,  or to Louisiana College.

This year there are two Distinguished Service Award recipients who will be honored:

Tony Perkins, President of the Washington, D.C. based Family Research Council and Jim Richards, Executive Director of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. 

Both recipients will be recognized in the chapel service and will have the opportunity to address the student body.

Sander’s Lectures~Dr. George Guthrie to speak

 Dr. George Guthrie  Pineville, LA…  Louisiana College Division of Christian Studies will host guest lecturer, Dr. George Guthrie, for the 2008 Sander’s Lectures Series. Dr. Guthrie, who currently serves as the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union University in Jackson, TN, is a student of the New Testament and has written numerous articles and books dealing with the New Testament. tlc opens with “Into the Woods”

Pineville, LAtheatre louisiana college (tlc) announces the opening of their fall musical, “Into the Woods” -Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine-, at the Martin Performing Arts Center (MPAC).

“Into the Woods” is Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award Winning Score and Script which is a melancholic fusion of our favorite fairytale characters.  It is a musical about the journey of the Baker and his wife into the woods to collect a red cape, a cow, and a golden slipper so that they may undo the curse that has left them childless.  The characters will leave you laughing out loud and fighting back tears.  This Sondheim great will touch the heart of every audience member.

Opening night will be October 16, 2008 at 7:00p.m., with additional performances October 17-18 and 23-25 at 7:00 p.m. Sunday matinee performances will be October 19th and 26th at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices are as follows: 

 Adults-$12.00

 Students & senior citizens–$8.00

LC students, faculty/staff–$2.00
