Psychology

Psychology is the one discipline that uniquely encompasses the complex interplay between intrapersonal, biological, interpersonal, and sociostructural determinants of human functioning. Albert Bandura, Ph.D. (2001)

Students graduating with a major in psychology can expect to join the workforce immediately in a variety of entry-level positions in education, social services, health care, government service and business.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, psychology majors most commonly received job offers in the areas of management, teaching, counseling and sales. Increasingly, ministry positions in all denominations encourage or require coursework in psychology.

Course offerings include: Developmental Psychology, Psychology of Religion, Physiological Psychology, Theories of Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and Aging and Death.

Professors in this department have expertise in both research and clinical psychology, as well as in counseling. Students have the opportunity to receive training in counseling techniques. In addition, Louisiana College is a chapter member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association.
