John David Murphy
Distinguished as a dedicated Christian counselor to youth and adults, an outstanding
churchman and family man, John David Murphy has touched countless lives in fulfilling
the mission for which God called him.
J.D. graduated cum laude from Louisiana College in 1981 with a degree in Church Music.
While attending Louisiana College, he was the recipient of the 1977 Presidential
Scholarship Award. He earned his Master of Arts in Religious Education with a major
in Counseling at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984 where he graduated magna
cum laude. Since receiving his master’s degree, J.D. has pursued a career in counseling
families and victims of alcohol and drug abuse. J.D. has worked as a clinical counselor
at Family Service Agency, a minister of counseling and Director of Support Group Ministries
at Alpine First Baptist Church, and is presently serving as a family therapist at Red River
Treatment Center.
Along with his counseling career, J.D. has also pursued a career as a registered
representative and registered investment advisor for Stewardship Financial Resources
in Pineville, Louisiana and Little Rock, AR. and as an agent for New York Life Insurance
Company.
J.D. Murphy is and has always been actively involved in church work. Through his church
affiliation he uses his skills as a counselor to touch many lives often with little or no
compensation. He also serves his church as a Sunday school teacher, finance committee
chairman, and plays an active role in the youth and worship leadership teams.
J.D. Strives daily through work, community, and church, to bring others’ lives out of
despair and into a greater understanding of their individual purposes in life. He is an
avid believer in the value of counseling and treatment and has thereby positively affected
the lives of hundreds of people. He accomplishes this while conducting himself in a manner
that reflects his values as a caring, empathetic and morally upright individual.
J.D. is married to Janice Murphy and they have two daughters, Heather Murphy Cooksey,
and Marissa Nicole Murphy. He has one grandchild, Raegan Joelle Cooksey. John David is
dedicated to his family and maintains a Christian image at home as well as at work. J.D.
is listed in the Who’s Who Life Member registry.
