Frances C. Pegg – “I’m in His Hands” – A Personal Testimony to God
“I didn’t want to sell what God has done for me. But, I prayed about it. I said, ‘God if you want me to tell my story, if you want it in a book, whatever, just point the way’.”
Her little body, smiling face, and welcoming spirit illustrates just how much joy she finds in the Lord and what He has done in her life.
She is Mrs. Frances Pegg, an alumnus of Louisiana College, who loves sharing her story with anyone who wants to hear it.
Mrs. Pegg met her husband while she was attending LC. One of her daughters also attended LC and currently her granddaughter attends, as well.
Giving all of the glory to the Lord, Mrs. Pegg acknowledges that she would not be on this earth today if it wasn’t for God.
After Mrs. Pegg asked for God to point her in the direction he wanted her to go in, things started to fall into place. After finally writing and printing out a brochure telling her story the response to her testimony was overwhelming.
Mrs. Pegg has been called a living miracle. Beginning in the fall of 2004, Mrs. Pegg began fighting a battle, but she knows she hasn’t fought it alone.
Mrs. Pegg was the caregiver to her husband who has Multiple Sclerosis and she began to notice that everyday tasks became more difficult. She began losing her balance and she started to fall. Growing concerned, Mrs. Pegg went to the doctor who gave her several M.R.I.s and found that she had a tumor in her brain between her brain stem and cerebellum.
After several road blocks to be able to get Mrs. Pegg all the way from her home in Lecompte, La., to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Mrs. Pegg prayed Catherine Marshall’s Relinquishment Prayer. She said the words “God, please put me in your hands,” and at that moment, things started to change.
Mrs. Pegg was contacted by the lead surgeon at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and he gave her a time in which he wanted her to come in and meet with him. The condition of Mrs. Pegg’s husband also began to get better so they were able to find an in home nurse to take care of him while she was gone.
After her first major surgery, Mrs. Pegg lost all function in the left side of her body due to a seizure. But nothing took Mrs. Pegg’s smile off of her face. She told every doctor and nurse that she encountered, “its okay. I’m in God’s hands.”
Because of the surgery, Mrs. Pegg learned that she had a rare form of lymphoma in her brain.
Developing problems that altered her daily life such as the loss of her singing voice, vision problems, and spells of nausea and vomiting, Mrs. Pegg continued to smile and never once lost her faith.
She knew she was in God’s hands and that meant that nothing would go wrong.
Before long, Mrs. Pegg’s daughters felt it was necessary for Mrs. Pegg and her husband to be closer to them in Alexandria, so they looked into moving into Kingsley Place, an assisted living facility.
At that time, Mrs. Pegg was reluctant about moving out of her home especially since her husband’s condition began to worsen. Even though Kingsley Place could not supply an adequate living space for Mrs. Pegg and her husband at the time, she thanked God for giving them the chance to stay in their home, even if just for a little while longer.
After three years of being in their home, Mrs. Pegg prayed to God once more, thanking him for everything He had done for her and her family and told God once more that she was putting herself in His hands.
Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Pegg received a call from Kingsley Place informing her that they had a room available for her and her husband and Mrs. Pegg knew that God was pointing the way.
Around the time Mrs. Pegg and her husband moved to Kingsley, Hurricane Gustav hit and it was apparent that the Lord knew what he was doing when he moved them out of their home. It would have been impossible for any caregivers to reach Mrs. Pegg and her husband in their home once the hurricane hit.
Mrs. Pegg lost her husband Thanksgiving of 2009, but she still rejoices for all of the time they had together.
Mrs. Pegg reflects on everything she can do for herself, today. She can do her own laundry, roll over in her bed, put on her own clothes, and simply raise her head in the mornings because of what the Lord has done for her. God has even helped Mrs. Pegg to regain some mobility in the left side of her body.
“You don’t think about things like that being so important, but everything you can do for yourself…thank you God…it makes you want to cry,” Mrs. Pegg said while her voice shook with emotion.
Today, at the age of 75, Mrs. Pegg finds something to thank the Lord for on a daily basis. She finds something positive in every negative situation she encounters and she still shares her story with churches in the community. People even come and meet with her at Kingsley Place just to hear of the wonderful works of God.
Mrs. Pegg does her best to bring glory to God through the testimony He has given her. Being influenced by Psalms 118:17, “I will not die, but live and tell what God has done,” Mrs. Pegg knows that sharing her journey is essential to bringing glory to the Lord.
“I have no tears because chemo dried those up, but my heart cries tears of joy if I’m doing something right.”
