Nancy Whitlock specializes in Colonial and 20th century Latin American literature.  Her current research focuses on early exploration texts written by the members of Spanish expeditions on the Gulf Coast.  New areas of interest include U. S. Hispanic literature, a new and exciting field studying Hispanic texts written in what is now the United States, from the 1500’s to the present.  In October 2012, she presented her research at the international Recovering the U. S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Conference in Houston.  Her courses include beginning and intermediate Spanish courses, Spanish conversation and grammar, and Latin American, U. S. and Peninsular Spanish literature.  She co-sponsors two honor societies:  Alpha Mu Gamma, the foreign language honor society, and the Freshman Dean's List, and she co-hosts Immersion Night, a festive night of international food, music, and conversational practice that introduces students to Hispanic culture.
