Lillian Purdy specializes in Early American literature, focusing on women writers within the period as well as writers of the Realist and Naturalist period.  In 2007, she presented a paper at the British Women Writer's Conference on "Fanny Trollope and Travel Writing".  She is currently writing her dissertation on the role of marriage in four utopian novels.  At LC, she was awarded "Teacher of the Year" for the years 2003 and 2005.  She is faculty co-sponsor for Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society as well as co-sponsor for the Freshman Dean's List Honors Society.  She coordinates library orders for the department and serves as the English area representative for at risk English majors.  She teaches both components of freshman English, American Writers, American Novel, Early American Literature, American Realists and Naturalists, and Southern Literature.
