Dr. Kimberly Sharp

Originally from Canada, Dr. Sharp received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and subsequently her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cedarville University, Ohio.  She obtained RN licensure in the USA and Canada, surgical nursing credentialing and nursing employment in a variety of areas in Ontario, Canada.  Completing a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, she then returned to Ontario to pursue certification and employment in critical care.   Recruited to Ohio as an she began teaching as an assistant professor in a baccalaureate nursing program.  Moving to Aberdeen, Scotland she pursued a Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing, followed by a PhD in Occupational Health Nursing with The Robert Gordon University, Scotland. 

A full-professor, with tenure granted at three institutions, Dr. Sharp has been involved in nursing education for more than 27 years, with the last 9 years in administration.  Dr. Sharp has a strong background in flexible and distance learning development and delivery, and has worked with pre-licensure, diploma, baccalaureate and graduate level programs.  Professional strengths are in curricular development; simulation integration and skills lab development; content mapping; transcultural nursing; accelerated, alternative, and graduate program routes. 

Teaching, research and consultancy opportunities have included Scotland, Malaysia, Thailand, other parts of Europe and the U.S.A.  Dr. Sharp has served in a variety of assessment and evaluation roles at the school, university and professional level, including institutional strategic planning and academic council. Contributing to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) work to promote highest quality in nursing education, Dr. Sharp has served with CCNE as both an on-site evaluator and team leader.  She has published journal articles and book chapters, and regularly presents at national and international conferences. 

Professional Memberships

Dr. Sharp is holder of the Coughlin-Saunders Professorship of Nursing Award. She is a current member of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and has participated in regional and national activities for the organization.  She is a current member of the Rotary Club of Alexandria, LA.

Dean Sharp currently teaches Public Health Nursing, Nursing Leadership, Transcultural Health, Informatics, and Spiritual Health Outcomes.  Dr. Sharp’s hobbies include music, family, reading, and travel.
