Biography
Preston H. McKee is the oldest of four sons of Dr. Albert P. and May McKee.
He completed his elementary and secondary education in Iowa City, Iowa. His father
was a Medical Doctor and a Virologist at the University of Iowa Medical School.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he pursued a career in science education.
He completed his Bachelor of Science with a Major in General Science at the University
of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa in 1965. In 1968 he earned a Master of Science with a
Major in Microbiology at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He then
served in the Army from 1968-1970 as a Biological Science Assistant, Sixth Army Area
Laboratory, Fort Baker, Sausalito, California. Dr. McKee completed his Ph.D. in
Microbiology, with a Minor in Agricultural Biochemistry at the University of Arizona
in Tucson, Arizona in 1975.
This is the 33rd year of Dr. McKee’s career teaching courses in Biology. He
first taught Biology courses at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus,
Mississippi for eleven years. He has been teaching Biology courses at Louisiana
College for the past 21 years. He has taught general microbiology, medical
microbiology, microbial physiology, immunology, virology, parasitology, embryology,
kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, and general biology.
Dr. McKee is happily married to Pat McKee, the accountant at Emmanuel Baptist Church,
and has two children. His daughter, Carrie McKee Bignar, twenty-six, is a graduate
of Louisiana College who is currently a fifth grade language arts teacher. His son,
Mark P. McKee, eighteen, is a graduate of Pineville High School and is currently
a student at Louisiana Tech University, majoring in Engineering. Dr. and Mrs. McKee
reside in Pineville. Dr. McKee enjoys exercising, singing in the choir at church,
teaching Sunday school and is an avid fan of baseball. He is excitedly awaiting
the arrival of his first grand-baby in March of 2008.
