About Dr. David Elliott, Ph.D.

Dr. Elliott serves as Chair for the Division of Natural Sciences / Mathematics.  He holds the rank of Associate Professor of Chemistry, and his teaching specialty is Organic Chemistry.  He has taught at LC since 2005.

Dr. Elliott is a graduate of LC.  His graduate studies were at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he completed a Ph.D. in 1986.

He holds the George F. Kirby Endowed Professorship of Chemistry since 2008.

Before joining the faculty at LC, Dr. Elliott served as research scientist at Unilever Research US, as a product development scientist at Calgon Corporation, and as a principal scientist at the Gillette Company.  He has co-authored about ten research publications in polymer chemistry and in water treatment chemistry, and has been named as an inventor on 18 US patents.

Dr. Elliott learned the tenets of chemistry by applying them in research settings, and brings this practical approach to the classroom.  His goal in teaching chemistry is to build the student into a perpetual learner and problem solver who can think creatively and analyze critically.

Dr. Elliott has three adult children: daughter Ruth and sons Thomas and Nathan.  His interests outside of teaching include writing and cooking.  His passion is studying the relationship between Scripture and science.  He studies and writes about the seamlessness of Scriptural truth and the created realm.
