Department of Teacher Education
Teacher Education at Louisiana College
In a completely rational society, the best of us would aspire
to be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something
less, because passing civilization along from one generation to the
next ought to be the highest honor and the highest responsibility anyone
could have. Lee Iacocca
Teachers are the givers of dreams to many of our children today. They
give insights, share knowledge, guide pathways. Their influence is boundless.
Their preparation is imperative.
Departmental Acclaim
The Louisiana College Teacher Education Program has an outstanding
statistical record of giving future teachers the education and training
needed to be successful as an educator.
Louisiana College has a 100 percent Institutional Pass Rate on all areas
of the PRAXIS, the National Teacher Exam. Only one other college or university
(out of 19) in the state has a similar pass rate. Clearly, LC teacher
ed graduates are well prepared.
Statistical Evidence of Excellence
-
The department has five full-time faculty
members, four of whom hold the highest academic degree awarded in
their disciplines.
-
The program has a four to one student to faculty ratio for student
teaching.
-
Students participate in an average of 35 hours per week of supervised
student teaching during 15 weeks.
-
LC teacher education graduates are in high demand in area schools
because of the reputation of the program.
Field-work Opportunities
The primary strength of the department is their commitment
to providing many valuable field-based classroom experiences in a student's
studies and individualizing instruction so a student can learn about the
art of teaching from those experiences, says Christy Warren, 1990
graduate of the department & current associate professor for the department.
