The Louisiana College Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Southern Baptist icon, Dr. Tommy French to serve as the new Chairman of the Board of Louisiana College.
“I am honored to welcome such a distinguished leader of our Baptist Faith who has tirelessly stood for the truth and persisted in serving the Kingdom of Heaven. He stands as a monument to Christian statesmanship in Southern Baptist life, leading in the Conservative Resurgence with his friends like Adrian Rodgers, Paige Patterson, and Judge Paul Pressler.” said Louisiana College President, Dr. Joe Aguillard. “His leadership to our Board will strengthen our effort to see Louisiana College grow, serve our students, and ultimately broaden our work throughout the world.”
Dr. Tommy French founded and served as pastor of Jefferson Baptist Church for over 50 years in Baton Rouge, LA. Dr. French has held various leadership roles in the Louisiana Baptist Convention and Southern Baptist Convention. In 1999 Dr. French was appointed to serve a two-year term as the President of the Louisiana Baptist Convention and 2nd Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000.
Dr. French was named by the Southern Baptist Convention to serve as a Trustee for the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for 10 years and served as Board Chairman from 2003-2005. In addition to these positions, Dr. French is held in high esteem across the Southern Baptist Convention as a man of sterling integrity and effective leadership.
Dr. French is married to Sue Cook French. He has two daughters Anne Scroggs and Carol Garon, 6 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
