Studying Business at Louisiana College

Louisiana College’s Division of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs. Louisiana College is one of the smallest programs to obtain national accreditation.

The Division of Business offers small classes – especially in the upper levels – and thus is able to utilize the case study method in most of the upper level courses.

Degree Programs
The Division offers courses leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in business administration. Four areas of specialization are available in the departmental concentration:

• accounting
• economics and finance
• general business
• management and marketing.

The Division also works with the Department of Teacher Education to offer a major in business education and with the Division of History and Political Science to offer a concentration in public administration.

Curriculum
Courses in the four areas of specialization provide specific skills for understanding and functioning in organizations and offer a basis for a lifetime of professional growth and development in a global environment.

Professional Opportunities
The Division provides students with several ways in which to gain professional experience and knowledge.

Internships are offered in each of the specialization areas within the Division, and students are able to join the Society for the Advancement of Management (SAM), which is open to all majors within the Division. Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society in business, is open to the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes.

Students are also able to do volunteer work within the community through the Division. Each year, the Division organizes an income tax service for the elderly in conjunction with the AARP, and it co-hosts an Economic Development Conference with the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce each spring. Students participate as active members in the conference.

Mission
Consistent with the purpose of the college, the Division of Business has a mission of combining a full-time, teaching faculty with an academic program that challenges the student in a community of learning.

Graduates
Students graduating from the Division of Business are capable of pursuing advanced degrees, passing the CPA exam and joining the workforce. Learn more about some of our business alumni.
