Athletic Training Educational Program
Admission
Due to the competitiveness of all athletic training educational programs and guidelines set by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training (CAATE), students must apply for formal admission. The program has a designated
number of students it formally admits after all entrance criteria is met.
Admission to Upper Division Athletic Training
Admission to Louisiana College as a Health and Physical Education/Athletic
Training major does not insure progression to the upper division Athletic
Training course work. Since the LC Athletic Training Educational Program
admission is competitive nature, students are not formally admitted into
the program until their sophomore year.
All transfer students applying for admission into the Athletic
Training Educational Program are subject to the same admission procedures
and standards of the college as well as the ATEP Program. The registrar's
office has the final authority to accept or reject transfer classes. If
you are transferring, you must plan to enroll for 3 1/2 to 4 years at
LC to complete all program requirements.
In addition to meeting general college admission requirements, formal
admission to the LC Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) consists

Progression Policies
-
At the beginning of each academic calendar year, OSHA, HIPPA, CPR
/ AED, modalities, as well as other athletic training relevant in-services
will be conducted for appropriate students.
-
All athletic training courses must be taken in the curriculum
sequence unless authorized by the program director of the ATEP.
-
Students must complete clinical hours and clinical competencies/proficiencies
assigned for each semester before advancing to the next clinical/practicum.
-
Students are not allowed to complete two clinicals in any one semester.
-
A student who drops below a 2.5 GPA will be placed on academic probation for one semester and reviewed by the Athletic Training Admission Committee before being readmitted to the program. The student must petition in writing to be considered for readmission to the program. Once readmitted, they will remain on probation for one year and if during that time their GPA drops below 2.5, they will be dropped from the program. If the student still desires participation in the LC ATEP, they will have to begin the curriculum from the beginning. On the other hand, if they maintain the 2.5 GPA throughout the probation year, the next year their probation status will be dropped.
-
A minimum grade of "C" in each athletic training course
is required.
-
Students are expected to conform to the Code of Student Conduct
as stated in the Louisiana College Student Handbook.
-
All clinical responsibilities have to be completed before the start
of the next semester.
Athletic training students who fail to meet the above criteria will be
placed on probation for one semester and will have to satisfy all criteria
for reinstatement. If after one semester the deficiencies remain, the
student will be released from the program.
