Media Communication
Students
studying media communications at Louisiana college will be prepared for
careers in broadcasting, electronic journalism, public relations and the
rapidly growing Minister of Media in local churches. The emphasis is divided
equally between academic theory, professional experience, and practical
application.
LC media communication graduates are in high demand. Since 1988, no LC
media communications graduate has received their degree without already
having job offers from which to select.
The Scope of Study in media communication covers:
* the history of mass communication industries from a U.S. perspective,
* the importance of writing abilities, as emphasized through required
coursework in journalism and other production courses,
* training in performance skills through broadcasting, voice and diction,
* exposure to the basics of video and other electronic media production
through courses utilizing on-campus audio and video production labs, and
* the required exposure to professional media industries through internships.
The facilities specifically designed for media communication
majors include:
* a 30x40 television studio equipped with professional lighting and three
broadcast quality cameras,
* professionally-equipped tv control room capable of feeding to buildings
on campus as well as the local cable system,
* two radio control rooms, each with an associated studio,
* Radio LC, a student-operated FM radio station broadcasting seven days
a week, 24 hours a day
* internet connected news room with accessability to CNN News Honor Program
and CBS Newspath on Campus programs
* four editing labs - one VHS equipped, two SVHS equipped, one of which
has A/B roll capabilities, and one one SVHS with digital switcher. All
can dump to 3/4."
