Dr. Glenn Sumrall is our Vice President for Academic Affairs. He and his wife, Betty, are natives of southeastern Louisiana. Dr. Sumrall received the M.S. and Ph.D. in biology from LSU and comes to us after over 30 years experience in Christian higher education having served the last 15 years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at LeTourneau University in Longview, TX. Prior to that he taught at Cornell College in Iowa and served as faculty member and administrator at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA.
Dr. Sumrall has a strong Southern Baptist heritage, being the son of a Southern Baptist pastor and his son is a Southern Baptist pastor in Texas. His brother graduated from Louisiana College.
Dr. Sumrall has extensive experience with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) having served on numerous visiting committees to colleges throughout the southern states. He is well-respected nationally in Christian higher education, being one of only two chief academic officers from the 110 member Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) to serve on the Commission on Student Academic Programs which travels across the US and internationally to evaluate the academic programs offered by the CCCU. In recent years, he has traveled to Martha’s Vineyard, (he says its tough work but somebody has to do it), Costa Rica and Egypt for that purpose and this year will travel to England and Russia for evaluation of the academic programs in those countries. As he travels to these locations, he will represent not only the CCCU but Louisiana College as well, and for that we are thankful.
Those who know him best have described him as steadfast, professional, compassionate, thoughtful, intelligent (he questions that), warm, humorous, unflappable, and a man of integrity.
