“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” – Colossians 1:16-17
When we think of the things The Lord created, nature’s fixed laws and principles are among them. This, of course, includes the areas of math and science.
Our goal is for you as a Mathematics Education (Math Ed) major is to develop the necessary skills for a successful teaching career, even as we provide you with a solid foundation for the continued study of Mathematics, Business, or Computer Science at the post-baccalaureate level.
As a student in Math Ed, you will study the principles of the mathematical sciences with a focus on developing conceptualization and analytical thought processes. At the same time, you will complete education training that will prepare you to teach math at the secondary school level.
The Math Ed degree combines standard principles of mathematics, both theoretical and applied, with emerging computational technology. The curriculum is designed so the student can build skills and acquire knowledge for a teaching career in mathematics. Technologies such as computers, calculators, and calculating software are integrated into instruction.
