Associate Professor of Psychology
Dr. Bayne Pounds serves as associate professor of psychology and is married to Dr. Jerry Pounds who serves as professor of psychology. She is the mother of Rebecca and Christian George, who live in Kansas City, MO, and serve at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and Jerry and Hannah Pounds, physicians in New Orleans and parents of grandson, Luke. Dr. Pounds’ specialty is developmental psychology with an emphasis in adolescent psychology and development. She wrote her doctoral dissertation on legal issues for ministers of youth and those who work with minors. She has been teaching at Baptist colleges and seminaries for three decades and enjoys equipping students for whatever God has in store for them. Dr. Pounds considers it a great privilege to help equip the next generation for Jesus Christ.
Her academic interests include developmental psychology, Christian education, legal issues and risk management for ministers and churches, adolescent development, and youth ministry. She has authored or co-authored numerous chapters and articles in publications dealing with lifespan development and Christian education, marriage and family concerns, and issues related to working with minors. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Psi Chi International Honor Society, and the Baptist Association of Christian Educators. She also was the principal investigator for the Board of Regents grant recently awarded to the Human Behavior division. With Dr. Jerry Pounds, she co-sponsors the Psychology Club and the Psi Chi International Honor Fraternity at LC, and co-leads marriage and family conferences nationally and internationally.
