Louisiana College Offers ACE Personal Training Curriculum
Louisiana College’s Department of Health and Physical Education recently announced a partnership with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) which will allow Louisiana College to provide advanced educational opportunities to its students, according to Dr. Carolyn Spears, coordinator of the Department of Health and Physical Education.
ACE is America’s non-profit fitness advocate and certification organization committed to enriching quality of life through safe and effective physical activity.
“As an ACE Education Partner, Louisiana College students will have an opportunity to enhance their qualifications by earning an advanced certification by an accredited certifying agency (ACE),” says Tiina Garrison, adjunct instructor of Health and Physical Education at Louisiana College.
Louisiana College is one of 20 colleges and universities in the nation chosen to participate in this pilot program. ACE hopes to implement similar programs in other universities and colleges nationwide in the areas of personal training, group fitness, and clinical exercise specialist training.
ACE-certified professionals are the most sought-after and respected fitness instructors in the world, Garrison says. “Known for their inspiration, dedication and knowledge, they train and educate their clients on safe and effective exercise techniques and motivate them to achieve healthier lifestyles.”
“We recognize ACE’s reputation as a leader in fitness certification, and we view the alliance as an added benefit to both ACE-certified professionals in the area and to Louisiana College students,” Garrison says.
“We hope this relationship opens the doors for our fitness and wellness students to a wide variety of careers by earning a highly reputable, nationally accredited fitness certification,” Garrison says. “It will also help increase the standards in fitness certification in the area.”
Ken Germano, ACE president, says, “We are pleased that Louisiana College is dedicated to providing high quality personal training study materials to its students. This partnership allows for a direct benefit to those interested in pursuing careers in the health and fitness field.”
Louisiana College students who are currently enrolled in degree programs will now have the opportunity to sit for an ACE exam at Louisiana College and earn certification and Carnegie Educational Units (CEUs) in advanced personal training.
Starting this fall, the LC Department of Health and Physical Education will offer a course called “Advanced Personal Training (APT – HP 443),” which will follow ACE-designed curriculum in the Personal Trainer University Exam Preparation Program.
The national ACE certification exam is scheduled for December 3, and the exam held at Louisiana College will be open to Louisiana College students attended HP 443 and for non-students interested in obtaining the ACE certification.
