Integration of faith and learning

Faith and Nursing

Nursing students are encouraged to understand the role of the nurse through the lens of examined faith. The LC DON views nursing as a ministry. As students are challenged to become the hands and feet of Christ they learn stewardship and accountability. Students are prompted to reflect upon the health care environment as being the context for living out one’s faith.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22 NIV)

Students commence the clinical program with a commissioning ceremony, where they are dedicated to the ministry of nursing as ambassadors for the Division of Nursing. As they progress their journal assignments incorporate fruit of the spirit outcomes, they document progress in biblical character development, and they are challenged to grow in their daily walk with the Lord through prayer in class and service learning opportunities in the community.
