Biography
Dr. Joe Aguillard was named the eighth president of Louisiana College on January 18, 2005. Dr. Aguillard previously held the position of chair of the Division of Education, coordinator of the Department of Teacher Education, and Associate Professor of Education.

Under Aguillard’s leadership, the Division of Education grew more than 500 percent, leading the nation in percentage of growth. It has consistently received high marks from the Louisiana Board of Regents, among others.

He has been elected by the College Deans of the state as president of their organization. The Governor appointed him to the Louisiana Blue Ribbon Commission on Education and he was chosen to represent the Governor’s office to present cutting edge educational innovations nationally.

He led a group of LC education students and faculty in researching and writing the curriculum for the Heart of Spain art exhibit at the Alexandria Museum of Art in 2003. The curriculum was used by teachers and their students around the world.

Before being named as president of Louisiana College, Aguillard was recognized as a popular faculty member with the students. In the Spring of 2004, he was named by the student body as “Teacher of the Year.”

Aguillard has been on faculty at Louisiana College since 2000, but his personal history with the College is a long and storied one. Both of Aguillard’s parents attended Louisiana College and met at the liberal arts school. He and his wife met at Louisiana College, and all three of their children have attended their parents’ alma mater.

Aguillard holds a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College, two master’s degrees and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. His doctoral research on student achievement among college preparatory students was noted by the American College Testing Program as being among the “best of its kind” when they petitioned Dr. Aguillard to use his findings in their nationwide testing program.

Prior to joining the Louisiana College faculty, he was Superintendent of Schools in Beauregard Parish. He also served as Minister of Music and Worship in his home church Dry Creek Baptist Church for almost 30 years.

He and his wife, Judy, have three daughters, Jill, Julie, and Jodie, and one granddaughter, Ellie.
